Story Consulting for Change

Create stories of belonging.

Creating change is a long process. The work might feel invisible but it is in the small steps where progress happens.

And still, as a changemaker you need to articulate your vision and results so you can keep moving forward.

How do you:

  • Focus on the future while expressing the need to take steps that may seem small and insignificant

  • Share your vision while managing expectations of the time it will take to come to fruition

  • Enroll others to join your cause and keep the momentum during the ups and downs of building a movement

I help organizations share a vision of what is possible.

My WeStory Framework focuses on bridging divides.

Rather than focuses on heroes the WeStory Framework helps us identify common ground and envision what is possible if we strive towards common goals.

In our sessions we:

  • Identify your intentions and look at the experiences that have led to these goals

  • Look at your stakeholders and examine the wishes, beliefs and experiences that inform their understanding of the problem

  • Find spaces of common ground and develop a language of common goals

  • Create a pathway, connecting the dots that will bring a deeper mutual understanding, sense of belonging, and feeling of shared purpose

“As a non-partisan leadership training organization working with change makers of tomorrow, we find it challenging to tell our story.

Laura provided a fresh approach to our fundraising video, suggesting we include voices of our graduates as a way of showcasing the diversity of the students we serve as well as the far-reaching impact that our programs have on our political system, businesses, and our communities at large.  She did this while also managing to communicate the unique approach CORO takes in training students.

Going forward we have a wealth of material to pull from as we think of leveraging our initial video shoot for new campaigns and new ways of connecting with our audience and sharing our stories.”

Story Consulting Process

  • Discover

Step 1: We look at your intentions and what message do you want to share, then the intentions of your audience, what are they thinking about, wishing for and fearing. Then we create a map of understanding, how did we get here and how did your audience develop their way of understanding.

  • Craft

Step 2: With an understanding of our intentions and the different influences that led to our understanding the world, we craft a story based on common ground and common goals. This is a path to a narrative based on inclusion and belonging.

  • Share

Step 3: We test your message and integrate insights to strengthen your impact and discuss ways to share this message across your various owned and social platforms as well as with press and partners.

“Laura has a strong sense of story and an ability to create engaging, emotional video content pulling from a large amount of raw interview content.

We’ve worked with Laura creating videos for various state and national policy campaigns, for fundraising efforts, and for awareness building.  Our initial thought leadership video was linked to in the NYT and featured in Upworthy. She remains passionate and committed to helping us deliver our message and reach larger audiences.”
