Art of the interview

When you listen with an open heart and mind, you create space for people to open up and share.

Artist Interview Series

Interviews about the artistic process.

In 2017 I was invited to documentary a collective full moon performance on an island south of Marseille, France. Interested by this experiment which had no audience, I spoke to the artists and crew about what motivates them in their practice. The result was a 16-part series, When Nobody is Watching.

Beard Club, the documentary

Interviews about belonging.

Beard Club is a documentary about the social politics of facial hair. The film takes viewers around the world and back in history to discover why facial hair matters to men. More than frivolous fashion, beards have been a marker of status, maturation, religious beliefs, resistance, self-acceptance, belonging and pride. Beard Club is a light-hearted, yet thoughtful look at men and gender.

LOVE

Interviews about love.

LOVE interweaves the voices of 26 people of various ages, races and sexual orientations who share their thoughts about love.

Seeking to get a sensorial sense and experience of love the installation bathes listeners in voices and images of love, the mundane and the profane, the challenges and beauty.

Modified for video from the original 30-minute 5.1 surround sound installation piece.
